La France Nouvelle

journal, pub:1848

See also Dumas' other journals.

From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed:
Apparently no sooner had M, Lepoitevin Saint-Alme declined to publish Dumas' letter of protest against the law of exile, than this latter decided to issue bis own paper, for "La France Nouvelle" appeared on the 20th of May, 1848. Its life was of the briefest, since its last number was that for the 24th of June of the same year. It attained to its thirtieth number.
It is described as a "political and literary journal ; editor-in-chief Alexandre Dumas." That writer's name makes its first appearance in No. 11, being that for the 1st of June, in a signed address to his readers. In this periodical he published the "Révélations sur l'Arrestation d'Émile Thomas," later issued separately as a pamphlet during the same year. (See page 231.) Here also he commenced the re-issue of "Les Trois Mousquetaires" as a feuilleton.
As this journal appeared concurrently with "Le Mois," we may suppose that "La France Nouvelle" was used to express Dumas' political views, since the other was stated to merely record events as they occurred—seen however, be it said, through the eyes of Alexandre Dumas.
