From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed:
     Six regular four-line stanzas, rhyming a, b, a, b.
"La Presse" for the 25th of November, 1846, has this notice : "Les journaux espagnols nous apportent des vers improvisée à Seville par M. Alexandre Dumas. C'est à la sortie d'un bal que l'auteur de 'La Reine Margot' a envoyé les stances suivantes à 'L'Indépendant' de Seville; No. du 12 Novembre 1846." ("The Spanish papers bring us some verses improvised at Seville by M. Alexandre Dumas. It was on leaving a ball that the author of 'La Reine Margot' sent the following stanzas to 'L'Indépendant' of Seville ; No. for the 12th of November, 1846.")
These verses were reprinted in "Le Journal du Dimanche" for the 29th of November, 1846.
Later they again appeared in the "Revue de Paris et de Saint Petersburg" for the 15th of January, 1888, under the title of "La Danse."
     M. Glinel also draws attention to Chapter XXXVIII. of "De Paris à Cadix," where will be found matter relating to Spanish dancing which gave rise to this poem ; the chapter in question is dated at Seville, November 13.
