La Régence

non-fiction, pub:1849

Continued in Louis XV et sa cour.

From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed:
A continuation of Dumas' long sequence of historical works, as distinct from romances, though interesting and picturesque in narration.
There seems little doubt that this was Dumas working alone and using contemporary memoirs and the like. His history was intended to interest and amuse rather than strictly to instruct, but with the purpose, too, of popularising the subject.
Original edition : Paris, Cadot, 2 vols., 1849.
Illustrated edition : Paris, Dufour et Mulat (including "Louis XV.," see below). "La Régence" has 5 engravings and 16 woodcuts in the text, besides initial letters and tail-pieces. It was frequently reproduced by various firms, even during the existence of the original publishers. Its date of issue was 1852.
This work now comprises one volume in the "Œuvres Complètes" of Calmann-Lévy.
In Le Vasseur's "Alexandre Dumas Illustré" it is in Vol. XIII.
