L' Homme aux contes

collection, pub:1858

A collection of fairy tales from other languages.

From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed:
This "man of stories" was Dumas' friend, Gérard de Nerval, dead at the time the former committed them to paper for the delectation of his little readers. Most were probably taken from German and Danish sources, indeed Nos. 6 and 8 are from the Brothers Grimm, and Nos. 1, 2 and 4 from Hans. C. Andersen, though they are sometimes more or less modified in process of transmission into French.
     They all appeared in "Le Monte-Cristo" during 1857, 1858, 1859 and 1860.
The following is a list of the stories which the volume contains :—
         1. Le Soldat de Plomb et la Danseuse de Papier.
         2. Petit Jean et Gros Jean.
         3. Le Roi des Taupes et sa Fille.
         4. La Reine des Neiges.
         5. Les Deux Frères.
         6. Le Vaillant Petit Tailleur.
         7. Les Mains Géantes.
         8. La Chèvre, le Tailleur et Ses Trois Fils.
         9. Saint Népomucène et le Savetier.
Original edition: Brussels, Méline, Cans et Cie., 1 vol., 185—.
These stories now form one volume in the standard Calmann-Lévy edition.
In Le Vasseur's "Alexandre Dumas Illustré" they are collected with Dumas' other children's stories to form a part of Vol. XVII.
