From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: One of Dumas' earlier attempts at a tragedy. He composed it before the fine effort at a rendering of "Fiesco," so well spoken of by M. Parigot.
In "Comment je devins Auteur dramatique," he tells us that "I did it justice by burning it as soon as born." Probably this is correct, since no one seems to have seen it—and yet, one is never certain; the same fate was thought to have befallen "Fiesque," "Edith aux longs cheveux," "La Bacchante," and "La Jeunesse de Louis XV.," to say nothing of "L'Ecossais," yet one after another they have made their appearance.
