    Le Roi Louis-Philippe

From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed:
LE DERNIER ROI DES FRANÇAIS, 1771 à 1851.
This is an interesting and important work. A younger contemporary of King Louis Philippe, and always keenly interested in matters political, Dumas took part in or watched with a seeing and comprehending eye many of the happenings here recorded. Though viewed through his republican sympathies, the record may be considered correct so far as his judgment went. It will be remembered that Louis Philippe, then Duc d'Orléans, gave him his first opportunity to settle in Paris, employing the young man in his secretarial office. Dumas frequently saw the Duc, and afterwards the king; moreover he was on very friendly terms with the young princes, and in particular with the heir to the throne and the young Duc de Montpensier.
Original edition: Paris, Souverain, 8 vols., 8vo., 1852.
Not included in the Calmann-Lévy edition or Le Vasseur's "Alexandre Dumas Illustré."
See also the two works below, and the "Histoire de Deux Siècles" (page 280).
